Campaigners are seeking views on plans to develop a new park in Upper Edmonton on the border between Enfield and Waltham Forest.

The new park, potentially one of CPRE London’s Ten New Parks for London, would be known as Banbury Reservoir Park. The project would transform neglected and fenced-off areas bordering Banbury Reservoir, opening them up for public use.

Alice Roberts from CPRE London said: “These are sites where protected green space, often in private ownership, is neglected or derelict.

“The cycle of decline means it often ends up threatened with development, then lost forever. Often these sites are in areas like Edmonton which don’t have enough green space. But you can see that it has fantastic potential as a community park, in a location which urgently needs it.”

Much of the land that would potentially form the park is owned and managed by Thames Water, and Enfield and Waltham Forest Councils. Four private businesses are also landowners within the proposed park’s boundary.

The park would include the reservoir, following the examples set by Woodberry Wetlands and Walthamstow Wetlands which also involved operational reservoirs and surroundings being turned into public space.

CPRE London and Enfield Climate Action Forum would like to hear from residents. People were invited to give their views at a ‘community hub’ event in Edmonton in late September.
