London Rivers Week 2023

London’s rivers play a powerful role in countering climate change. They offer a vital habitat for wildlife, and are a wonderful resource for people to enjoy, whether on the water or enjoying surrounding landscapes. Work has begun to restore some of our rivers, but pollution and ill-thought-out planning decisions still threaten their future.

London Rivers Week is an annual campaign inspiring the public to celebrate all of London’s rivers and the many projects taking place to protect them. It is supported by CPRE London.

The quality of our rivers is affected by both too much and too little water. The climate crisis is making extreme weather such as heatwaves and prolonged rainfall more frequent. In 2022, London experienced both floods and drought.

This year’s theme for London Rivers Week is climate change and how action on river restoration is urgently needed to reduce the impact on both people and wildlife. We need to work together to find solutions to the climate emergency and are calling on Londoners to come together to celebrate our rivers, inspire new thinking, and help drive the changes needed.

River restoration a response to the climate crisis
Wednesday 31 May 2023 – 6pm to 8pm

The quality of our rivers is affected by both too much and too little water. The climate crisis is making extreme weather such as heatwaves and prolonged rainfall more frequent. In 2022, London experienced both floods and drought.

For this session we have brought together a panel of experts, policymakers, community activists and grassroots volunteers. There will be three presentations covering flooding, regeneration, and planning and policy.

The event is aimed at grassroots volunteers, lead Local Flood Authorities, local Councillors, politicians, people and organisations interested in flooding and climate resilience, flood risk management authorities and people from local communities at risk of flooding.

The event will be held in The Gallery in Farringdon.  For more details and to register see here.
