The More Natural Capital Coalition: Work on the London Plan Continues
The consultation on the Draft London Plan may have closed, but the conversation about London’s future is far from over.
As members of The More Natural Capital Coalition (MNCC), we have worked collectively throughout the consultation process to ensure that nature, climate resilience, public health, food security and access to green space remain central to the planning discussion. Convened by CPRE London, the coalition brings together a wide range of environmental organisations committed to influencing policy and decision making at both Greater London Authority and borough level.
The closure of a consultation represents a milestone, not an endpoint.
MNCC members are calling for the strengthened protection, enhancement, accessibility and further delivery of green infrastructure across London Plan policies. This must be positioned as essential infrastructure and a strategic asset in the face of the climate emergency and nature crisis, not just a strongly weighted environmental benefit.
As the Draft London Plan moves into the next stage, MNCC members will continue to support constructive dialogue with policymakers and hold decision makers accountable for delivering positive outcomes for people and nature.
We encourage everyone interested in the future of London’s environment to learn more about the organisations that make up the More Natural Capital Coalition. Each member works on different aspects of green infrastructure, defined by the National Planning Policy Framework (2026) as: “A network of multi-functional green and blue spaces and other natural features, urban and rural, which is capable of delivering a wide range of environmental, economic, health and wellbeing benefits for nature, climate, local and wider communities and prosperity. It includes parks and gardens, green spaces, green corridors such as rivers and canals, sustainable drainage systems, features for species, street trees and community orchards.”
The consultation may have closed, but lasting change is achieved when Londoners remain engaged. Together, we can push for a city where nature is protected and enhanced, green and blue spaces are valued, climate resilience is embedded in decision making, and every Londoner can benefit from a healthier environment.
MNCC members who co-signed the joint statement on the Draft London Plan include WWT, LFGN, Friends of the Earth, Open Spaces Society, London Wildlife Trust, Epping Forest Heritage Trust, Woodland Trust, London Parks & Gardens, Sustain and CPRE London.
