Ten New Parks – action needed!
If you live in London, you are two and a half times more likely not to have a garden, yard or patch of grass to call your own. Which is why we believe the city’s public green spaces are even more important to protect – a place we can easily access for mental and physical health, near our homes.
Many of London’s protected green spaces are being bought by speculators to seek planning permission to build on them. These ‘land-bankers’ often deliberately leave sites to become derelict, don’t allow them to be used and sometimes exclude the community with fencing in the hope their protective designations as Green Belt or Metropolitan Open Land will be lifted. Sites enter a cycle of decline and can end up lying unused and often fly-tipped for decades.
We need your help to change this!
CPRE London is supporting local campaigning groups to bring a number of these sites back into use as new parks and nature reserves. We provide support and advice on planning, fundraising, campaigning, communications, media and legal issues. We help generate campaign ideas and act as a critical friend, give the benefit of our experience of working with many local groups over many years, and help build the confidence they need to take action.
