Urban Tree Festival - 10-18 May: Good things come in trees!

11th May 2025

Experience the joy of trees in springtime with CPRE London and the London Tree Ring at this year’s Urban Tree Festival

From 10th-18th May, the Urban Tree Festival comes to the capital. This annual community celebration of trees in cities and towns will see events, walks and talks across London. From mindfulness workshops to walking with witches in Epping Forest, there’s an exciting and varied itinerary.

“Trees in springtime are beautiful, but they are also hugely important in mitigating the impact of climate change”, says London Tree Ring Director Phil Paulo. “We are excited to be involved with the Urban Tree Festival to encourage people to enjoy the beauty that nature has to offer and raise awareness of how trees can help us protect our planet.”

Come along to one of our events to learn more about our London Tree Ring vision and spot some spectacular trees:

  • Green Link Walk on Monday 12 May (6pm-8.30pm): Phil Paulo will accompany David Harrison from Footways on a walk from Hackney to Angel along the Green Link.  Participants will help identify potential locations for new tree planting to help create canopy connectivity, and opportunities to create rain gardens to reduce run-off and contribute to improved water quality.  To book please click here.

  • Community-driven treescape creation webinar on Tuesday 13th May (1-2.pm): Local communities can play a key role in creating new areas of woodland, orchard, hedgerows and ornamental trees.  Are there neglected and underused green spaces near you with the potential to be transformed?  How about other green spaces that could be enhanced through the addition of carefully selected trees?  Hear from London Tree Ring Director Phil Paulo how local communities can get involved in the project and why local knowledge around how best to sensitively grow tree canopy cover in a way that maximises the benefits for people as well as nature is so important.  Right tree, right place principles are at the core of this initiative!  Phil will be joined by Christoph Warrack, CEO, and Mark Hilleard, Head of Projects, at Common. who will explain exciting work Common is doing with local communities across the UK to take things to the next level and buy and manage land for nature recovery, protecting green sites for current and future generations. There will be a Q&A at the end.  To book please click here.

Most Urban Tree Festival events are free and a lot of the work is done by volunteers – but this all needs coordinating.  If you would like to contribute to securing the festival’s long term future please give here
