First ever London Tree Ring Director appointed
CPRE London is excited to announce that Phil Paulo has been appointed as the new London Tree Ring Director
Phil brings a wealth of experience in trees, community project management and training and will lead in making our ambitious 25-year vision to create the London Tree Ring a reality. As former Head of Major Tree Planting at the Tree Council and having worked for the London Wildlife Trust and The Conservation Volunteers, among other charitable and conservation organisations, the project is in great hands.
Phil will be responsible for managing dedicated volunteers and handling relationships with landowners and our organisational partners and stakeholders. He will also be looking to build sustainable income to allow us to find sites, start planting and continue our work well into the future.
Fantastic project
“I’m really excited to be part of this fantastic project,” said Phil. “Creating the London Tree Ring will be so important in the fight against climate change and the nature crisis and will make London’s green spaces more accessible to all. We have big plans and lots to do and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
Heading up the London Tree Ring Steering Group, Phil will build on the impressive work already done by staff and volunteers. The team’s efforts so far have included:
- a research report into urban tree planting learning lessons from elsewhere in the UK and round the world
- In partnership with Green Space Information for Greater London the mapping of key treescape creation opportunity sites and creation of a connectivity line showing how existing wooded areas could be linked via top opportunity sites
- research into more than 200 specific sites in and near the connectivity line.
- Building relationships with landowners and community groups.
- The first demonstrator site is over the line and we hope will be followed by many more helping demonstrate the potential of the project delivery mechanisms to accelerate the growth of London’s Urban Forest
