Pulling together a Trees and Woodland Creation Strategy has been required by all local authorities since 2023. These are vital for driving action on accelerating treescape creation at this critical point in the climate and nature crises.  If you have been charged with this task, we hope you find the following information useful. 

• Strategies should be linked to the London Urban Forest Plan(LUFP),updated in Jan 2025 with input from most of the organisations involved with trees in the capital. See also the LUFP updated actions document and the London Urban Forest Resource Hub publication library.

•  The Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS), published in March 2026 is the other key document to help inform environmental planning. Tree Ring projects are particularly relevant to the first two of the document’s 6 goals, “Help people enjoy nature” and “Bigger, better, more connected and more habitats.”  

• Effective action can also be driven by highlighting specific treescape creation opportunity sites.  These could be sites known to yourselves (parks or other council owned land) or sites nominated by local people – either way we’d love to talk to you about any such opportunities. We have also been collating details of sites at borough level for a number of years.
