Comedy writer Andy Hamilton is to join in a CPRE London webinar with campaigners from the Save Wimbledon Park group on 2 November. “I am against the AELTC development because, at every level, it is a fundamentally bad idea”. 

This Green Belt and Grade II* listed park with beautiful veteran trees, areas rich in biodiversity, and part of a Capability Brown landscape is now under threat from plans for an industrial scale tennis complex.

London is defined by water, from the iconic loops of the Thames to the smaller rivers that give its neighbourhoods identity and space, and the lost rivers that still flow beneath its streets.  The event will explore the role that water plays in our perception and experience of London – as a transformative force, with the power to change places, change people and change our environment. Does the water that flows all around us – over and under the city – hold the key to the past, the present, and the future? How can we treat our waterways better, and restore them to benefit everyone? Could we really rewild the city? What can we give London’s rivers, and what can they give us?
