'The Green Belt is a National Resource, not a Cash Cow'

'Safe Under Us?' Report Launch, House of Lords September 13 2016

Reception

Over 75 campaigners, Councillors, Members of Parliament and the Lords, including Bob Blackman MP, Baroness Jenny Jones and Lord Rogers of Riverside, withstood the Indian summer heat to hear why the London Green Belt is as vital now as it ever was but is facing its greatest threat from proposals to build over 123,000 homes.

The London Green Belt Council and CPRE London's joint report “‘Safe Under Us?’ An investigation into widespread threats from housebuilding in the London Metropolitan Green Belt” highlights how Government housing and planning policies have led to an unprecedented scale of threat to London’s Green Belt.

The London Green Belt Council and CPRE London's joint report ‘Safe Under Us?’ highlights how government policies and sanctions appear to be forcing councils to release Green Belt land for development.

Take a look at the coverage of the London Green Belt Partnership's Threats to London's Green Belt Map in The Telegraph

The London Great Belt Partnership is a partnership of eight CPRE branches in and around London and the London Green Belt Council. Collectively we represent well over 50,000 people and have joined forces to highlight and challenge the significant threats to London’s Green Belt.

Our Threats to London's Green Belt Map is being developed as part of a partnership project with the London Green Belt Council and CPRE branches in Essex, Kent, Beds, Bucks, Berks, Surrey, Herts and London. It shows the threats that we are aware of to London’s Green Belt: by a ‘threat’ we mean that there is a proposal to build on a protected Green Belt site or the Green Belt protection is at risk of being removed.
